2007 Week Seventeen Power Rankings

As stated last week, there weren't too many changes to the rankings in this rendition. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the play of the New York Giants. Obviously, they had nothing to play for in week 17, but they gave the Patriots all they could handle. In the process, they may have lost center Shaun O'Hara for the postseason, a gamble they knew they were taking. But, Tom Coughlin and the players took the risk and almost pulled one out.

Coughlin faces a lot of criticism from the fans, media, and even some of his players, but he should be commended for listening to the pleas of his players and doing the right thing. As a matter of fact, even though they lost, I think their performance will serve as a springboard into the playoffs.

1. New England Patriots (16-0) - pure and simple - perfection.
2. Indianapolis Colts (13-3) - Cleveland fans don't like Tony Dungy much these days...not much at all.
3. Dallas Cowboys (13-3) - has anyone noticed how poor the Dallas offense has looked since Terrell Owens' injury?
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (11-5) - this team is made for cold weather playoff football. Beware Steelers and Patriots!
5. San Diego Chargers (11-5) - well, now we'll see if the coaching change was worth it.
6. Green Bay Packers (13-3) - the difference between them and Dallas is shrinking....exponentially.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) - since they're home-field underdogs, Mike Tomlin won't need motivational speeches.
8. Seattle Seahawks (10-6) - if they play like they did in Atlanta defensively, the Redskins will beat them..
9. Tennessee Titans (10-6) - this may be the worst 10-6 team I've ever seen.
10. New York Giants (10-6) - not many teams move up in the Doc's power rankings after losing, but they deserve it.
11. Cleveland Browns (10-6) - take pride in a job well done, Romeo Crennel.
12. Washington Redskins (9-7) - is there a more-loved team than the Redskins right now?
13. Houston Texans (8-8) - Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans are two of the best 20 defensive players in the NFL.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7) - rest, shmest, I don't like the way this team is entering the postseason.
15. Minnesota Vikings (8-8) - the future looks extremely bright for the Norsemen.
16. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8) - Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb may have saved their jobs over the last four games.
17. Denver Broncos (7-9) - it's time for Mike Shanahan to give up the personnel portion of his responsibilities.
18. Buffalo Bills (7-9) - I was sad to see Marv Levy go, but it was long past due.
19. Arizona Cardinals (8-8) - if Matt Leinhart's the real deal, they'll be the "Colts of the next decade.".
 20. Cincinnati Bengals (7-9) - keeping Marvin Lewis as the head coach is a huge mistake.
21. Chicago Bears (7-9) - the most important goal for the Bears this offseason than fixing the quarterback position.
22. Detroit Lions (7-9) - Mike Martz had no chance with that offensive lines.
23. New Orleans Saints (7-9) - the Saints only need one thing this offseason - a competent defense.
24. Carolina Panthers (7-9) - speaking of defense, theirs needs to play with more heart next year.
25. Baltimore Ravens (5-11) - Brian Billick had to go - for an offensive genius, Baltimore's was pretty ugly.
26. New York Jets (4-12) - out of the Jets 12 losses this year, nine were by 10 points or less.
27. Kansas City Chiefs (4-12) - except for the running back position, they Chiefs need help everywhere.
28. San Francisco 49ers (5-11) - In my opinion, Alex Smith isn't the answer. It will be interesting to see if they agree.
29. St. Louis Rams (3-13) - they complete a string of 10 straight teams that were mildly to extremely disappointing.
30. Oakland Raiders (4-12) - hiring Cam Cameron to mentor JaMarcus Russell would be a stroke of genius, Al Davis.
31. Atlanta Falcons (4-12) - rookie Jamaal Anderson, the "impact pass rusher", finished the year without a sack.
32. Miami Dolphins (1-15) - good luck, Bill Parcells, you're really, really, really going to need it.
