There's No Place Like the Road

After completing this week's picks, I gave them a quick once-over and started hyperventilating. As the panic rushed over me like Albert Haynesworth with one inch cleats, I saw that I picked 10 visiting teams. So, I looked everything over again. "Did I miss something? Did I forget about an important injury? Did I leave the garage door open?" Nothing, zip, nada - no answers. I just can't explain it.

Picks appear in bold.

Buffalo (+3) at New York Jets                                                                                                                                                       I can't explain it, but there's just a much more calm and competent feeling about this Bills' team with Trent Edwards as its leader.

Indianapolis (-6.5) at Carolina                                                                                                                                                Isn't it funny how David Carr decides to talk trash when he isn't playing. Poor Vinny Testaverde, now he has to feel the brunt of Dwight Freeney's misplaced anger.

Detroit (+5.5) at Chicago                                                                                                                                                         I've got a bet with John McClain of The Houston Chronicle about the finishing records of the Lions and Titans. Even though I don't like Detroit here, I've got to start rooting for my pick.

Pittsburgh (-3.5) at Cincinnati                                                                                                                                                     It looks to me like the guys in Vegas keep thinking, as do I, that the Bengals are this close to turning it around.....not this week.

New York Giants (-9.5) at Miami                                                                                                                                                  I have a question, Mr. Goodell. If you're trying to promote the NFL to the rest of the world, why in the hell are the Miami Dolphins included? This should be one of the worst games of the weekend.

Philadelphia (-1) at Minnesota                                                                                                                                                     I really don't feel comfortable with this game. Donovan McNabb should do well against the porous Viking pass defense, but I think Minnesota will do a good job of taking Brian Westbrook out of the game.

Cleveland (-3) at St. Louis                                                                                                                                                        The Browns may end up being the surprise team of the year, and in the process, save Romeo Crennel's job.

Oakland at Tennessee (-7)                                                                                                                                                       Not much to say here, except welcome back Vince Young.

Houston at San Diego (-9)                                                                                                                                                           If Matt Schaub doesn't recover from his hip injury, this one could get really, really ugly.

Jacksonville (+3.5) at Tampa Bay                                                                                                                                         Yeah, I realize that the Jaguars are relying on Quinn Gray to take the helm, but when you've got Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor behind you, and Tampa's 21st ranked run defense in front of you, things should still work out.

Washington at New England (-16.5)                                                                                                                                     Even with the ridiculous spreads they've faced, the Pats are 7-0 against Vegas. Like Richard Dreyfuss, I'm just going to let it ride.

New Orleans (-2) at San Francisco                                                                                                                                         Very soon, we're going to be talking about how the maturation of Reggie Bush is what saved the Saints' 2007 season.

Green Bay (+3) at Denver                                                                                                                                                       Like last week and Peyton Manning, I learned a long time ago not to bet against Brett Favre on Monday Night Football. See Dad, sometimes I actually do watch and learn.

Last Weeks Record: 9-5-0                                                                                                                                                   Overall Record: 51-45-7
