Grudge Weekend I can't remember a weekend in the NFL with so many "grudge matches." Think about it, we've got Cowboys/Redskins and Browns/Ravens. Individually, Daunte Culpepper returns to Minnesota to prove that he's not washed up. Reggie Bush travels to Houston to face an organization that jilted him (and don't think he isn't still upset about that). Also, Peyton Manning is still pissed at Peyton Manning for his performance last week. And last, but certainly not least, Bill Belichick versus the oddsmakers in Vegas. A little birdie told me he woke up last Tuesday, ripped his favorite sweater in two when he found out his Patriots were only favored by a measly 16 points, and railed, "my destiny cannot be fulfilled until we're favored by at least 50!!!!!" Picks appear in bold. Tampa Bay (-3) at Atlanta What is Bobby Petrino trying to prove, anyway? It's obvious that Joey Harrington is playing better than Byron Leftwich and the players think so, too. Byron must have some really good dirt on the head bird. Cleveland (-2.5) at Baltimore I've officially given up on the Ravens...sort of like Baltimore's players. Arizona at Cincinnati (-3) I'm pretty uneasy about this one. Both teams have good offenses, but the defenses are pretty inconsistent. Since it's in Cincinnati, I think the Bengals show up. New York Giants (-3) at Detroit Even though they have the same record, the Giants are just a much better team. Carolina at Green Bay (-9.5) I wonder what excuse everyone will have for not trusting the Packers now that the running game is coming around? New Orleans (+1.5) at Houston Drew Brees and company will put last week behind them and come out firing. Also, see note above. Oh, you didn't read the introduction? Just looking for the betting advice, are we? Well, I'm not continuing until you read the first paragraph. Yes, I really do mean it. Kansas City at Indianapolis (-14.5) Poor Chiefs! They have to know that Peyton Manning is extremely upset after his performance in San Diego. Well, they would if they read this column. And so do you, now that you read the opening comments. There, there, don't you feel better about yourself? San Diego (+3) at Jacksonville Right now, I don't really trust either of them. Both teams look great one week and awful the next. To me, the Chargers' opportunistic win over the Colts bears more weight to me. Oakland (+5) at Minnesota Once again, you would know why by now if your read the first paragraph. Miami at Philadelphia (-9.5) I'm not really comfortable with this game either. I'm not in love with how the Eagles are playing, but Miami is just soooooo bad. I think Brian Westbrook makes enough plays to cover. Pittsburgh (-9.5) at New York Jets Personally, I can't believe this line isn't 14! At least! Washington (+11) at Dallas I'm kind of confused on Vegas' thinking on this one, too. This rivalry has been known historically for two things: 1. These two teams hate each other, and 2. No matter how good or how bad either of them are, it's always a close game. St. Louis (-3) at San Francisco This is how bad things are for Alex Smith - he's being benched for Trent Dilfer! Let me say that again for effect....Trent Dilfer!!! Chicago (+5.5) at Seattle No reason or snappy comment, just a hunch. New England (-16) at Buffalo When are the wiseguys gonna learn?!?!?! We're all gonna let it ride on the Pats until you get up into the twenties. And, we'll keep taking your money! Tennessee (+2) at Denver I really like Jay Cutler, but without a running game, it's too early in his development to expect him to win a game through the air. And from what I've heard, Albert Haynesworth is going to play. Last Weeks Record: 6-8-0 Overall Record: 76-61-7 |
