Wherefore art thou, Romeo?

When I started breaking down this season for the website, one of the first realizations I came to was that the Browns would be bad. I had no idea that they would be this bad. Now, it's only been one game, but their showing last week was pathetic. Cleveland doesn't have a lot of talent on that team, but they looked like a team that had already given up on the season - and their coach. Romeo Crennel is a nice guy, and I respect him as a defensive coordinator, but he has been an unmitigated disaster as a head coach. I think management will keep him on until the end of the season, but only to keep a somewhat stable environment for a very young team.

With that in mind, I advise everyone to bet against the Browns for the rest of the year. Maybe that makes me sound callous, but money is money, and betting against Cleveland this season is like printing it out yourself.

Picks appear in bold.

Buffalo at Pittsburgh (-9.5)                                                                                                                                                           I just can't see the Bills being able to shrug off the last week of emotional upheaval and beat one of the best teams in the league in their own place. As much as I'll be rooting for them, I see Pittsburgh winning by at least two touchdowns.

Cincinnati (-7) at Cleveland                                                                                                                                                     See notes above........and a medical professional if you still bet on the Browns.

Indianapolis at Tennessee (+7)                                                                                                                                             Don't get me wrong - I don't think the Titans will win this game, but I think Vince Young will keep it close. Also, the Colts' defense will come back down to earth after their incredible first game.

Houston (+7) at Carolina                                                                                                                                                            In contrast to the Browns, as long as Vegas keeps viewing the Texans as the 2-14 from two years ago, I'm going to keep putting my money on them. Carolina has always been slow to start and Gary Kubiak will figure out a way to take advantage of that.

San Francisco at St. Louis (-3)                                                                                                                                            Steven Jackson has been waiting for this game since last Sunday. He only lost two fumbles all of last year, but had two in last week's game. He's mad, and unfortunately for the 49ers, he's looking to take it out on someone.

Green Bay (+3) at New York Giants                                                                                                                                        With or without Eli Manning, the Giants will have a hard time moving the ball on Green Bay's defense. In addition, I can't see Brett Favre having two so-so games in a row. Man, do I sound like John Madden or what?

Atlanta at Jacksonville (-9.5)                                                                                                                                                  This is one of the more difficult games of the week. Obviously, Atlanta stinks, and the question of who wins this game is hardly in question, but I'm just not sure the Jags will score enough points.

New Orleans (-3.5) at Tampa Bay                                                                                                                                           The person who made this line must be a huge Bucs' fan. Anyone who thinks that the Saints don't want to score 50 after last week's performance is kidding themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if every Saint doesn't establish career highs.

Minnesota at Detroit (-3)                                                                                                                                               Minnesota has one of the best run defenses in the league. Unfortunately for them, that means absolutely nothing in this game. The Vikings porous secondary will be eaten alive by the Lions.

Dallas (-3.5) at Miami                                                                                                                                                             Once again, who is making the lines this week?!?!?! I'll make enough to put my kids through school by taking the 'Boys and Saints this week.

Seattle (-2.5) at Arizona                                                                                                                                                             Is it my birthday or what?

New York Jets at Baltimore (-9.5)                                                                                                                                              As I said in my season preview, I think the Jets over-achieved last year and their week one performance didn't do anything to sway that opinion. However, like Jacksonville, it will be interesting to see if they can score enough points to cover.

Oakland at Denver (-10)                                                                                                                                                           It's funny how every Denver-Oakland game is a revenge game for Mike Shanahan after being fired by Al Davis like 50 years ago. Seriously coach, let it go.

Kansas City at Chicago (-12)                                                                                                                                             Nothing against Houston, but if the Chiefs could only muster 219 yards against the Texans, I don't know if they'll get one first down against the Bears. It will be interesting to see if Brody Croyle gets significant playing time in mop-up time this year. I don't know if Herm Edwards is secure enough in his position to survive a quarterback controversy as well as a 4-12 season.

San Diego at New England (-3)                                                                                                                                          LaDainian Tomlinson has been looking forward to this game since the Patriots mocked Shawne Merriman's "Light's Out" dance last January. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a huge game, but I just can't see Philip Rivers making enough plays to make a dent in the Pats' defense.

Washington at Philadelphia (-6.5) I've always like Donovan McNabb on Monday night. I've always disliked the Philly fans on Monday Night. Both add up to a long game for the Redskins.

Last Weeks Record: 9-5-2                                                                                                                                                 Overall Record: 9-5-2
