And Down the
Stretch They Come
Picks appear
in bold.
Indianapolis
(-6) at Jacksonville
As I've said before, last week notwithstanding, I think the
Jags have quit. Moreover, the Colts are the hottest team in
football. I don't see this one being very close.
Baltimore
(+5) at Dallas
Dallas' offense is still not firing on all cylinders and Ray
Lewis has the Ravens flying to the ball. The Cowboys might
win this game, but Baltimore will make it very, very close.
New
Orleans (-7) at Detroit
The Saints have been a very difficult team to handicap this
year. For the most part, the offense has played well, but
the defense has been a crapshoot. However, I can't bring
myself to take the Lions against anyone.
Pittsburgh
(-1.5) at Tennessee
Obviously, this is one of a few big games this week, and I
might feel better about the Titans chances if Albert
Haynesworth was playing. I know Jeff Fisher's squad has some
very capable backups, but Haynesworth is the most valuable
defensive player in the league and the Steelers will exploit
it.
Miami
(-3.5) at Kansas City
When you look back at the final scores from Dolphins' games
this year, it appears as though Miami is playing down to
their competition. But, they keep winning and I think they
can smell the postseason.
Arizona at
New England (-7.5)
The Cards are 0-4 on their trips to the east coast this
year and are giving up almost 40 points per in those games.
Kind of makes you wonder if the defense is getting through
airport security.
San
Francisco (-5) at St. Louis
This one was hard...no, seriously. The probable absence of
Frank Gore leads me to believe that points will be hard to
some by for the 49ers, but their defense has been
impressive.
San Diego at
Tampa Bay (-3)
Over the years, the Bucs have struggled against teams
with physical running games, which explains their recent
losses to Carolina and Atlanta. However, the Chargers don't
have that kind of attack, and I like Tampa Bay to inch
closer to a playoff berth.
Cincinnati at
Cleveland (-3)
Does anyone care why? If you do, email me, and then I'll
waste my breath?
New York Jets
at Seattle (+5)
The Jets are the Bizarro-Cardinals - they can't win when
they go west. They've been outscored 88-56 in three games,
which doesn't sound too bad....until you realize it's
against teams that are a combined 14-28.
Houston
(-7) at Oakland
Right now, I think the Texans could beat any team in the
league. And believe it or not, that still includes the
Raiders.
Buffalo at
Denver (-6.5)
Plain and simple, Marshawn Lynch's rib injury bothers me
more than the Broncos' inconsistency.
Atlanta at
Minnesota (-3)
The Falcons' dream season comes to an end as they run
into the Vikings' impressive run defense. Minnesota will
force Matt Ryan to win the game and I just don't see him
having much success.
Philadelphia (-4.5) at Washington
After losing to the Bengals last week, there's no doubt in
my mind that Jim Zorn's team is done. As a matter of fact,
so is he.
Carolina at
New York Giants (-3)
I very well might regret this one, but I like the Giants
for three reasons: 1. Brandon Jacobs will be back. 2. I
don't think the Panthers can bring the pressure with their
front seven like the Cowboys did last week. 3. New York is
getting tired of hearing about their "demise."
Green Bay at
Chicago (-4)
The Bears haven't done much to impress me this year, but
the Packers have done even less. I feel bad for Aaron
Rodgers, because history and Brett Favre fans will blame him
for the setback from their 13-3 2007 season. However, I
would say he's one of the only bright spots on one of the
most disappointing teams of 2008.
