2008 Week Sixteen Power Rankings

1   New York Giants (12-3) Like I said last week, a healthy Brandon Jacobs makes all the difference.
2   Indianapolis (11-4) Week 17 - you know what that means? Yep, it's "Jim Sorgi week" in Indianapolis.
3   Tennessee (13-2) I guess the Titan obituary articles were a little premature. They looked pretty mad against the Steelers.
4   Pittsburgh (11-4) I wouldn't put too much into last week's performance. This is an experienced team, with the type of game plan, that can go on the road and win in January
5   Carolina (11-4) That was one of the best games I've seen this year. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the only way they could get by the Giants next month was at home.
6   Baltimore (10-5) The Ravens' ground game, as experienced by the Cowboys, makes this a very scary team in the playoffs.
7   Dallas (9-6) When they're on, they can beat anyone in the league. But when they're off, they are pitiful.
8   New England (10-5) The Patriots need help to get in the playoffs, but it shouldn't diminish the resolve they showed in playing well without Tom Brady.
9   Atlanta (10-5) It's pretty amazing to think that they could end up being the second seed in the conference after this weekend.
10   Tampa Bay (9-6) The Bucs probably missing the playoffs says a lot about the improved and deep NFC.
11   Philadelphia (8-6-1) Last week will be totally forgotten if they beat the hated Cowboys this weekend.
12   Miami (10-5) The only bigger surprise in sports this year was the Tampa Bay Rays.
13

New York Jets (9-6) I can only imagine the hurricane Eric Mangini will face from the New York media if this team doesn't make the playoffs.
14   Minnesota (9-6) They'll sweat it out after they lose to the Giants, but celebrate when the Texans beat the Bears.
15   San Diego (7-8) Everyone's talking about them being "dangerous" if the beat the Broncos and slip into the playoffs. Facing the Colts in round one, I don't see it.
16   Denver (8-7) What an absolute collapse. Mike Shanahan has to be on the edge of checking himself into a mental institution.
17   Chicago (9-6) Can this team move the ball at all without Matt Forte?
18   Washington (8-7) Sorry Jim Zorn, it's just too little, too late. I think he should keep his job, but I don't think Daniel Snyder is as patient.
19   Arizona (8-7) Someone should tell the Cardinals, Broncos, and Jets that the schedule does run through December.
20   New Orleans (8-7) It's a shame that such a Drew Brees' great performance this year will simply be an afterthought.
21   Houston (7-8) Well, the Texans learned another valuable lesson last week. You just can't take any game for granted in the NFL.
22   San Francisco (6-9) I was glad to hear Mike Singletary got the head coaching position. His leadership should have 49ers' fans excited for next year.
23   Buffalo (7-8) Here's hoping for a healthy Trent Edwards next year.
24   Jacksonville (5-10) It's going to be very weird to not see Fred Taylor in a Jags' uniform next year...or, not injured on the sidelines, either.
25   Seattle (4-11) I was very happy to see Mike Holmgren win his last home game in what has become a very forgettable final season...maybe.
26   Green Bay (5-10) It's just a hunch, but don't be surprised to see the Packers throw Albert Haynesworth a lot of money this offseason.
27   Oakland (4-11) They proved they have a young talented base on which to build. Now if they could only get their senile owner to give up control of the team...
28   Kansas City (2-13) I'll be very interested to see what happens to Larry Johnson before next season. I just can't see him as a Chief in 2009.
29   Cincinnati (3-11-1) I'm just glad I didn't have to watch the Bengals-Browns game...but I did anyway.
30   Cleveland (4-11) This team needs a lot more help that I thought. They need to start with head coach and general manager, but it certainly shouldn't stop there.
31   St. Louis (2-13) What a shame. Steven Jackson is one of the most versatile players in football and he's playing for a team that is totally irrelevant.
32   Detroit (0-15) Steve Spurrier, the quarterback of the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers that went 0-14, said this week that he wouldn't wish that fate on anyone - me neither.
