The Doc's Week Sixteen Picks

Eeeeeeeeeeew, that was pretty gross. I'm hoping that last week's record was a result of the delirium from last minute shopping and trying to figure out how to keep the wife happy, while entertaining way too many family and friends.

Picks appear in bold.

San Diego (-3) at Tennessee
How in the world are the Chargers an underdog to anyone right now? Personally, I'd take them against the Colts in Peyton Manning's back yard.

Seattle at Green Bay (-13.5)
You're right, that is an awful lot of points for a passing team in December in snowy Wisconsin, but after that incredibly crappy loss to the Bucs at home, I certainly don't like the Seahawks against one of the hottest teams in the league.

Oakland (+3.5) at Cleveland
I can't believe I'm betting on the Raiders for two weeks in a row! Other than that, does anyone care about this game? Will they even televise it?

Kansas City at Cincinnati (-13)
Once again, I know that's a lot of points, but how can I bet on a team that has lost four games in a row by a combined 73 points.

Buffalo (+9) at Atlanta
I hate this game. The Falcons have been a disappointment this year and the Bills....well, they're just the Bills.

Houston (+3) at Miami
Both of these teams have been disappointments as well. However, of the four primary units, I like the Texans' offense the most. Another interesting note, Andre Johnson could sew up his second straight receiving title today. Surprisingly, only one other receiver has ever accomplished that feat - the great Jerry Rice did it twice.

Carolina at New York Giants (-7)
Two factors for this selection: 1. The Giants are a desperate team that has to win this game and 2. It looks like DeAngelo Williams will be out and Jonathan Stewart is gimpy, which means a whole lotta Matt Moore....blech!

Tampa Bay at New Orleans (-14)
The Saints finally lost, which I think is going to help them tremendously. Now, they can go back to what they've been doing for most of the year - drilling most of their opponents and no longer worrying about "the streak."

Jacksonville (+10) at New England
Don't get me wrong, I think the Patriots will win, but the Jags have done a pretty good job this year of keeping games close. In addition, a snow game in New England means more Maurice Jones-Drew, which is a very, very good thing for Jack Del Rio's bunch.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh (-2.5)
I hate to repeat myself (ok, ok, for those of you who know me, you probably think that I absolutely love to repeat myself), but I'll take the more desperate team at home at this time of year almost every time.

Denver at Philadelphia (-7)
Like the Chargers, the Eagles are peaking at the right time and are one of the top three or four teams in the league right now. On other hand, the Broncos are running on fumes and have followed up a 6-0 start with a 2-6 streak.

St. Louis at Arizona (-14)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Rams are playing better. But, that still doesn't mean I'm going to take them on the road against a playoff team....even with a two touchdown spread. So, why do I have a feeling I'm going to regret this one?

Detroit at San Francisco (-10.5)
It's not that I like the 49ers that much in this situation, but that I dislike the Lions with Drew Stanton in this situation. If Matt Stafford were there, I'd take the Lions straight up.

New York Jets at Indianapolis (-4)
Did I miss something? Did the Jets trade with the hated Patriots for Tom Brady? Did they somehow sucker the Saints out of Drew Brees? They must have done something like that to justify a four point spread on the road against a 14-0 team.

Dallas (-6.5) at Washington
After watching the "can of quit" the Redskins opened up last Monday (and by the way, how in the hell do the Redskins get back-to-back primetime games during the last month of the season, when they were 8-8 last year and made no real improvements to an over-achieving squad?), I'm not taking them again this year.

Minnesota (-7) at Chicago
I like the Vikings to rebound after a disappointing loss and the resulting squabble between Brett Favre and Brad Childress. They just hit me as a team that will react well to adversity. And cut your crying, Vikings fans, you knew the soap opera you were inheriting when you signed the ultimate drama queen, so don't complain when the media makes a big deal out of him throwing a temper tantrum.
