The Doc's Week Fourteen Picks
Wow, another abysmal week.
The second half of the NFL season has been surprising, to say the least.
For example, who would have thought that the defending champion
Pittsburgh Steelers, with or without Troy Polamalu, would lose two of
their last three games to teams with only one win apiece. Read that
sentence again, not only did they not cover, they actually lost
both games. In addition, the recent struggles of the Patriots (largely
making Tom Brady actually look....well....ummm....human) are making
Vegas and bookies everywhere wonder whether Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza,
or whatever holiday they celebrate, has come early.
Picks appear in bold.
Pittsburgh at
Cleveland (+10)
See drivel above...
Denver at Indianapolis
(-6.5)
This is not the type of game the Colts will lose. Instead, it will
be to the Bills in week 17, when they're resting everyone except punter,
Pat McAfee, who will need the work.
Cincinnati at
Minnesota (-6.5)
As much as I'm worried that last week may be a sign that Brett Favre
is turning into the Brett Favre that we saw late last year, I just don't
believe in the Bengals.
New York Jets (-3)
at Tampa Bay
I'm not sure if I trust Kellen Clemens, but I certainly trust Thomas
Jones against the league's 31st-ranked run defense.
Buffalo (+1) at
Kansas City
Seriously, does anyone care?
Green Bay (-3) at
Chicago
This line really surprises me. I mean, has anyone in Vegas actually
watched the Bears play recently?!?!?!
New Orleans (-10)
at Atlanta
I know that the Saints are not as good on the road, and they should have
lost to lowly Washington last week, but the Falcons only chance at
covering is if Matt Ryans' big piggy gets significantly better by
Sunday.
Detroit at Baltimore
(-13)
Four words for you - Daunte....Culpepper....is....starting.
Miami (+3) at
Jacksonville
The Dolphins have to win this game and, like the Bengals, I think the
Jags are doing it with smoke-and-mirrors.
Carolina at New
England (-13)
I've been accused of having a man-crush on both Tom Brady and Bill
Belichick, and after reviewing some of my work, I can see why people
would think that. However, if they don't get out of their current rut,
I'm going to go "Elin Woods" on them.
Seattle at Houston
(-6)
If the Texans don't win this one convincingly, I will absolutely
give up my promotion of them as the next "it team."
St. Louis at Tennessee
(-13)
Vince Young or no Vince Young, this one should be over at the half.
Washington (-1) at
Oakland
See Buffalo at Kansas City
San Diego (+3.5)
at Dallas
I really don't believe in the whole "Tony-Romo-and-the-Cowboys-suck-in-December"
thing. However, I do believe in the "Philip-Rivers-and-the-Chargers-are-undefeated-in-December-over-the-past-four-years"
thing.
Philadelphia at New
York Giants (+1)
I keep hoping that Tom Coughlin will realize that there's no reason
why Brandon Jacobs should not get the ball 20 to 25 times. It's just
stupid.
Arizona (-4) at
San Francisco
Trust me, I'm very wary of the possibility that the Cardinals will
suffer a letdown after that convincing win against Minnesota. But, I'm
just not sure the 49ers have the offensive weapons to make them pay.
